Lumi saapui. Sitä on jo yli 15cm, mutta on liian aikaista sanoa, onko se tullut jäädäkseen. Järvi on vielä sula myös rantavesissä, pintalämpötila 6 astetta celsiusta. Käkkälöjoella tilanne oli toinen. Minun piti päästä vastarannalle, mutta ennen kuin kanootin sai veteen, piti rikkoa jää rantavedestä. Paikoitellen jää oli niin vahvaa, että se ei rikkoutunut melalla hakaten.
The lake is still frozen, except for the shores. I measured the ice thickness on May 10: 30–35 cm of solid ice with some air bubbles. The snow on land has almost melted, with patches remaining here and there. The first flood peak on the Ounasjoki River is forecast for this coming weekend. It’s time to repair and tar the boats. Then we’ll just wait a little longer. See you on the lake soon!

...as of 28th of May. That's when the last ice floats floated away. The boat has been painted and tarred and I am ready to start rowing on Sun the 1st of June. Here we come, summerlake. See you there.
Ounasjärvi (Lake Ounas) froze on the 1st of November, 2024. Snow fell on it the same day and closed down the view of the shiny surface. The winter of the lake has started.
